January 25, 2015 Rest in peace – Scrat, Stuart Little and Happy
The past few weeks have been crazy and sad and I don’t know where to begin. On the evening of January 24, Scrat became unwell. I rushed her to the vet where they started an IV and admitted her for observation and tests. During the night, she couldn’t breathe on her own and was put on oxygen. By Sunday morning, all of her tiny old organs were shutting down or had shut down and the vet asked for permission to take her off oxygen. She drifted off immediately.
Scrat was such a bright spot in my world. No one will ever replace Rosie but Scrat could make me smile and be happy when I held her. How could I resist her little winky face? I was not prepared to lose her so soon.
I contacted her rescuer, Zach at Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue right away as I felt he should be the first to know. His response knocked the wind out of me. Scrat was rescued with two other tiny dogs Happy and Stuart Little. Happy and Stuart passed away within days of Scrat! All three of those precious souls left this world in the same week. I don’t have the details but I believe it was a similar situation to Scratty – tired little bodies. They were adorable and my heart goes out to their families. I am truly grateful to Zach and the team at Marley’s for allowing me the honor of caring for Scrat. She was a special little lady and I dearly miss her.
